The first thing you should do is make sure your website is has good on page SEO. Do all the basics with title tags, page names, and clean and clear navigation with anchor links. You want to make a good first impression, and make sure that when the search engine bots come looking, they can find everything they need to index your website.

Make it easy by having good related content to the links. Don’t just link to the front page, do some links to inside web pages. Your internal linking should be easy to follow using descriptive links. Internal linking is important for both the user experience and the search engine bots that come review the content.

Pick your best four or five keywords or phrases and make sure you have good content rich web pages to match. Do a little research to find elements of those keywords or terms that have some history of searches, but not overwhelming competition.

Write three articles on three search terms that are of interest and relevant to content. Publish on both EzineArticles.com and Isnare.com. On Isnare, pay the $2.00 to have your article submitting to their list of publications and other websites. Make sure each article has specific anchor text in the author block at the bottom, and while you’re at it make sure you entice them somehow to click.

If you have a product or service that you sell, go put up an ad on USFREEADS. Make sure you put it in an appropriate category and use descriptive anchor text for the link. Go ahead and sign up for the Premium Membership, it’s $10 per month and worth it for both the links from the ads and the traffic.

Get a copy of Fast Blog Finder, start off with the free version. This software finds blogs that are directly related to keywords submitted and have the follow link capability. This will allow you to search for blogs to post on that directly relate to your subject matter and can provide both links and traffic if you post good information. The free version is limited to 50 blogs per keyword, the paid version is unlimited.

So all of these methods provide links that you can use anchor text that is relevant to your web page content. Very little cost is involved and the money you spend will be well worth the few bucks. You want to use a lining strategy that gives you links and actual traffic from tightly targeted visitors.

After the first two weeks, go sign up for a Google account and go into the Webmaster Tools section. Use the features to check for duplicate titles, bad links, etc. Then upload your XLM version sitemap. That’s a special version for search engines to check each time they visit your website.

Here’s a good schedule to keep the links and traffic coming. Do the following every week for a year and you’ll get good targeted traffic from your links and the search engines.

Once a week write two articles to publish at EzineArticles.com & Isnare.com.
Once per week write two articles for your website on very specific keywords.
Once a week find 10 blogs to post to for different keywords.

At the end of your first year you will have about 100 articles in EzineArticles.com. You will have the same in Isnare.com and probably around 5 extra links per article from distribution. You will have 40 blog posts per month in numerous highly targeted blogs.

Those numbers will produce up to 672 links from articles in the first year. Over 480 links from blog posts, and another 50 from classified ads. That’s a total of 1200 links that you have to get click through traffic and search engine traffic from the resulting index rank.

That’s better than 90% of the websites on the Internet. These methods work, and are not difficult to do for anyone. The cost is low and the benefits are high. So the best search engine submission tips are to use anchor text links at popular and relevant websites.

Blog Content Link Building Ideas

I’ve been blogging monthly since 2009, and over this time I’ve built up about 60 articles with tips and strategies for SEO and small business website presence. But not many people see my older blog posts. So, this summer I decided to try to get some mileage out of the older, still relevant articles by doing some content link building.

Generally, I don’t do a lot of link building as content creation is now the preferred way to improve website visibility. But because I write many articles full of useful tips, I decided to share these tips with my social media connections on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+.

This approach accomplishes several goals:

Improve social signals to blog content for Google search algorithms
Improve visibility of old blog content that is still relevant
Increases traffic and shares to my blog
How social traffic and shares to my old blog posts increased

I want to share some data with you for the first 2 months of this social media link building as compared to the prior 2 months.

Not everyone will achieve these same results as it is a pretty limited time frame and not a controlled experiment, but it is food for thought when considering content link building ideas.

How to repurpose old blog content on social media

What did I do to get a bunch of tips from old blog posts on to social media? Here’s my 3 step approach:

Create a spreadsheet with two columns: Tip and URL
Have someone manually read through your blog and fill in the spreadsheet with tips
Post tips to social media twice a day

CREATE A TIPS SPREADSHEET FOR SOCIAL MEDIA

In the first column, you will put a Tip that can serve as a tweet. So, it must be less than about 120 characters to allow for a possible URL.

In the second column, you will put the full blog post URL which links to the post where the tip came from.

You can add an optional third column for shortened URLs, which I recommend if you are going to use Twitter as one of your social media websites. If you use a tool like HootSuite for posting to social media, they will automatically shorten the URLs for you which means you don’t need this column.

HAVE SOMEONE MANUALLY READ THROUGH YOUR BLOG AND FILL IN THE SPREADSHEET WITH TIPS

This process is labor intensive as you do need to come up with Tips that are self-contained. That is, the Tip itself makes sense on social media if people read it out of context. People can always get more details on the Tip by clicking the link in the social media update.

What I did to get the tips for 60 articles, was to hire a virtual assistant to read through the blog and create the tips spreadsheet. If you have a college student handy or a receptionist with time on their hands, then this might be a great task for them to tackle.

Another idea is to brand your Tips. I decided to add a prefix to each tip to identify it further: “Your SEO Tip:” Keep in mind that the prefix does use up some of the characters for Twitter.

After the Tips spreadsheet is put together, review it for accuracy. As you write new blog posts, periodically create a new tips spreadsheet.

POST TIPS TO SOCIAL MEDIA TWICE A DAY

The next step is to get your tweets and Facebook status updates out there. You can manually do this every day or use an automated service like HootSuite Pro’s bulk uploader.

Since I’m a solopreneur, I decided to go the automated route. But if you have a receptionist, virtual assistant, or social media guru, they may handle the manual posting duties.

*** Remember to include the URL links back to your blog posts in each social media update. ***

I bulk uploaded posts to HootSuite so they appear on social media twice a day on weekdays only. I use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+.

You can choose whatever days of week, times, and social media sites that make sense for your business.

After adding an optimized page to your website or post to your blog, Google and other search engines will “index” it. After that, it will be found in the organic search results.

You can improve your content visibility and SEO by doing things outside of your website/blog. The tips below are a good starting point for promoting your website and its content.

For blogs, setup the Authorship options in Google+.

Have a clear byline in each blog post.
Create a Google+ profile.
Follow the instructions to link your content to Google using a verified email address.

Social Media

Set up social media profiles that make sense for your business:

  • Facebook page and profile
  • LinkedIn profiles and groups
  • Twitter account
  • Pinterest or Instagram for photos
  • Post to each social media and link to content when something is new (blog post, sale) or you have an announcement.
  • Start conversations to share ideas.
  • Use a social media management tool like HootSuite.
  • Add more flexible social media sharing to your blog posts (AddThis.com).

Social Bookmarking websites

Use social bookmarking to share links to your posts and pages. Here are some popular sites:

  • StumbleUpon.com
  • Digg.com
  • Delicious.com
  • Squidoo.com
  • Tumblr.com (share excerpts from blogs)
  • Get comments on your own blog and participate in the conversation
  • To get the conversation going, ask people (friends/customers) to comment
  • Ask a question at the end of blog posts to entice people to share thoughts on a topic
  • Reply when people comment
  • Always moderate comments to eliminate spam from automatically showing on your blog
  • Participate in Forums and Comment on blogs in your niche
  • Leave meaningful comments that add to the conversation or ask questions.
  • Set up profiles with a link back to your blog.
  • Look into using a Disqus.com profile.
  • Join industry or local organizations

Choose organizations that relate to your web/blog content:

  • Better Business Bureau
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Industry Associations
  • Create profiles that link back to your blog and website.
